About Woof Wag Nation
Who runs Woof Wag Nation, why it exists, and what you will find here.
Woof Wag Nation is run by Cal Hewitt, a website builder who started the site to help people choose a dog that fits their life, live well with it, and find good places to go together. It covers dog breeds, everyday life with dogs and dog-friendly places across the United States.

Who is Cal Hewitt?
Cal is the founder of Woof Wag Nation. He also founded Web Leveling in 2019, a company that builds websites, and the sister site DogServ, which covers dog services and safety. That background is why Woof Wag Nation is built around practical questions: which dog, what a normal week looks like, and where you can go together.
You can read more about him on his author page.
Why does Cal write about dogs?
Cal's dog, Nucky, was an Italian Greyhound-Chihuahua mix who was with him for about 10 years. Nucky died in 2021. Ten years of daily life with one small dog is the experience behind this site's focus on routines and outings.

What will you find on the site?
The site is organized around a few areas, so you can go straight to the one that matches your situation.
- Breeds: what each breed is like to live with.
- Choosing a Dog: guides for first-time owners, apartments and families.
- Life With Your Breed: grooming, exercise and everyday routines.
- Dog-Friendly Places: parks, off-leash parks, dog beaches, trails, restaurants and patios, breweries and hotels.
- For Dog-Friendly Businesses: listing plans for venues that welcome dogs.

How does the site work?
Breed guides describe tendencies and leave room for individual dogs and households. The directory lists places for dogs and their people. Dog rules vary from one venue to the next, so it's worth asking about dogs when you book or arrive. Some guides link to products, and those links are explained on the affiliate disclosure page.
You can read the full statement on the mission page.
How can you get in touch or keep reading?
Start with the dog breeds or the places directory. The weekly newsletter sends new guides each week. If you have a question, want to suggest a place, or run a dog-friendly business, send a note through the contact page or add a place.
